Complementary Verbs

Some verbs do not convey a complete thought by themselves.  The most common use an infinitive to complete the thought (e.g. 'begin to...', 'wish to...', etc.).  Like helping verbs, these should be considered only one thought even though it is expressed with more than one verb.

Complementary Verbs:
Certain Verbs that use an infinitive to complete the one thought.

The complementary verbs are highlighted in the following sentences.

Jim began to run.

The boys wanted to replace the window.
