Adjectives - Modify the subject, the direct or indirect object. Adverbs - Modify the verb. Prepositional Phrases - Modify the verb, subject, direct or indirect object.
Each of the main skeleton parts of the sentence may be elaborated by other words that modify by adding further information. There are a number of ways that the skeleton can be modified.
