Relating Propositions: How Ideas Work Together
Propositions (clauses, sentences, paragraphs) can be related in a variety of ways. These relationships are typically described by the conjunctions that connect them. Below are just a few examples of the kind of ways that propositions can be related.

Some possible relationships are highlighted in the following sentences:
Time Relationship
When she heard the glass break, Mrs. Smith came quickly to the window.
Cause/Effect Relationship
She was so mad that she began to yell at the kids.
Contrast Relationship
He ran, but he could not get away.
