Conjunctions: Connecting Words
Ideas are connected in a great variety of ways. Conjunctions are connecting words that join ideas (words, clauses, sentences, and paragraphs) together. the way the ideas are connected depends on the meaning of the conjunction. Some conjunctions add ideas together (
and), some contrast ideas (
or,
but), and some show a logical relationship between ideas (
because,
therefore).
Conjunctions:
Words that connect ideas in various relationships.

Then Jim threw John the ball.
The ball went over his head and broke Mrs. Smith's stained glass window.
Therefore, everyone playing baseball ran away.
John left his glove and his bat.
Hint: Conjunctions are extremely important to understand larger units of thought and will be discussed in depth when we talk about how propositions are related.
