- 1. Attendance and Participation-
- Because of the nature of this course as a ‘practicum’, the most important aspect of the class is that you actually have ‘practice’ in the concepts of the course.
- The course is built around a decreasing amount of instruction and an increasing amount of guided student activity.
- This means that student should be present, on time, with their instrument in good repair, tuned and/or warmed up and ready to go.
- 2. Attitude-
- That is good attitude.
- Because it is a student practicum, involving students with differing levels of skill and experience, a positive, gracious attitude will be required at all times.
- This means submitting to direction from other students who are in a leadership role.
- Students should arrive with a ‘ready to learn’ attitude, as well as a willingness to help others.
- This is especially necessary when you are not leading- you should still participate by playing, singing, running sound, and/or just worshipping.
- 3. Practice-
- In order to make the most of the class time, it will be necessary for the student to learn and/or practice songs outside of class time.
- In a leadership role, it is your job to be prepared before the class session in which you will lead.
- For the benefit of themselves and their classmates, the student will be expected to do their best to be able to participate in class activities with skill and excellence.
- 4. Leading a team in learning and leading worship-
- Students are to take turns leading the class and the WA246 class in learning and performing worship songs.
- Each leader will lead class for one 50 minute period at a time (see class schedule).
- Students may switch scheduled times by mutual agreement.
- The class is a practicum, simulating (by actually being) a rehearsal environment actually leading up to worship events.

- The leading will focus on four major aspects:
- a. Rehearsal- leading the team in rehearsing material, including all preparation and setup for rehearsal, arranging and leading team into excellence in performance readiness.
- b. Learn and teach new song- each student will be given a CD of a new song. The student will have to learn the song, find or write leadsheets, lead the team in learning the new song, and lead the team in performing the new song.
- c. Rearrange older song/hymn- each student will choose a hymn or older worship song [pending instructor approval], significantly rearrange/change/update the song, and lead the team in learning and performing the new arrangement.
- d. Lead in chapel and Jury- each student will lead the team in leading chapel worship at least once during the term. In addition, each leader will lead the team in performing a worship set for the end of term jury. The jury set will contain the new song and rearrangement of the old song.
- 5. Designing worship sets-
- Throughout the term, the student will design worship sets for their particular contexts.
- This will include at least one chapel during the term.
- This will also include the end of term jury incorporating the new song and rearrangement of the old song.
- Worship set designs should demonstrate an understanding of all the principles from MU341 Worship Leadership.
- 6. Conference-
- each student will meet with the instructor a minimum of two times during the term (one around midterm, and one near the end of the term) to discuss and evaluate the students performance in leading.
- The student should take the initiative to schedule the conference with the instructor as these times draw near.
- 7. Textbook reading and book report-
- Students are to read Things They Didn’t Teach Me in Worship Leading School in its entirety and write an 800-1000 word report.
- The book report will contain the following information:
- a. A statement stating that you have read the book in its entirety.
- b. Choose the four chapters/sections that stood out to you the most. For each, write the following:
- i. A brief summary of the chapter/section.
- ii. Describe why you thought they were significant and how they will impact your present and future ministry.
- iii. A brief description of the immediate and long-range action steps you intent to take as a result of the chapter/section. How are you going to apply the chapter/section to your life?
- DUE Tues. Feb. 27th at the beginning of class.
- There is no Final Exam in this Course.
