Class attendance –
The student is to be present, to be on time, and to actively participate in class discussion and activity.
See the PLBC attendance policy.
Strategic Prayer –
Each class session will begin with an extended time of prayer.
Students will participate and fervently pray as directed each week.
Students are encouraged to strategically pray for themselves, for their platoon, for the instructors and for the entire class throughout the week.
Textbook/Supplementary Reading –
The student is to complete all assigned reading from the course textbooks and articles each week (see the course calendar and supplemental reading list).
The student is to use this reading not primarily as an academic exercise, but as an exercise in soul work.
Approach each reading prayerfully, asking the Holy Spirit to examine your own life and work deep change in the areas discussed by the reading.
Some of the supplemental reading gives options on what to read.
The student should choose those readings most relevant to their own personal life and struggles.
Reading Reports (RR) –
For each textbook and supplementary reading (combined), the student will complete a report on Populi.
Because of the nature of this assignment, the student will simply report the percentage of assigned readings completed and the seriousness with which they applied these readings to their lives.
These Reading Reports (RR) will be available as a ‘test’ in Populi.
They are available at any time and must be completed before class time each week (at which time they will no longer be available).
Due Weekly
Interaction/Accountability/Support Platoons –
Students will be placed in a small group as part of the first class session.
These platoons will discuss each week’s material, but primarily allow/encourage each member to honestly walk through their own personal issues in a context of safety, mutual support and gracious godly accountability.
The purpose of these groups is to help one another grow and find victory in all areas of life.
Details of Platoons will be discussed during the first class session.
Personal Response Papers (PR) –
Each week the student is to write a 1-2 page max personal response to the weeks reading, course material, and group discussions.
The purpose of this assignment is to interact with the Holy Spirit and personally, honestly, deeply apply the material to the student’s own life.
The report will be a record of what has taken place in this interaction.
Specific directions will be given out week by week and will give instruction on the specifics of each interaction as well as the form of each report.
Due Weekly
Mentor Report (MR) –
The student is to find/choose/ask a spiritually mature person of the same gender to advise the student through the issues of their own life and Christian discipleship.
Ideally the mentor will be someone with whom the student is already in significant relationship, and who will likely continue to have relationship with the student and hold them accountable long after the completion of the course (although family members are not always a good choice).
The student will meet with the mentor a minimum 30 minutes every two weeks, but ideally should meet/speak every week in more depth (phone/skype conversation is acceptable, but text/email is not).
The exact content of this meeting is determined by the student and mentor, but the student should share those things they are working through in this course and the mentor should encourage/aid the student in this process.
Throughout the term the student will submit three reports of the process.
Report sheet for each will be handed out in class.
Due Jan. 23, Mar. 20, and Apr. 10.
Final Interaction/Long Term Growth Report (LTGR) –
Near the end of the term, the student is to write a 3-5 page summary describing what God has done in their lives through the course, what they have done/how they have changed through the term, and their long-term strategies for continued victory/holiness/growth throughout their lives.
Due Wed. Apr. 17th at 8am.
Testimony/Celebration Time –
During finals week, instead of a final exam, the class will meet to share testimonies of how God has been working in our lives and celebrate with one another.
