- Class attendance-
- Student is to be present, to be on time, and to actively participate in class discussion and activity.
- See the PLBC attendance policy.
- Bible/Textbook Reading and Reading Reports-
- Students will read selected portions of the OT in preparation for each class session.
- The reading is to be done before class on the date assigned.
- The readings are listed on the Reading Schedule which can be found in the Course Pack, on the course website or on Populi.
- To report on your reading, from the Populi page for this course, click the "Tests” tab on the course page then choose the appropriate report.
- For each reading completed before the due date, click “done”, for those readings completed up to one week after the due date, click “late”.
- The reading reports will be available for one week after the due date.
- Reading Reports must be done via Populi and will not be accepted in class.
- Scripture Devotion/Prayer Journal-
- In conjunction with the Scripture reading, each student should use the reading as a devotional practice.
- This ideally includes listening and prayer.
- Each student will write a weekly journal of their devotional and prayer time from the Scripture reading.
- Each weekly entry will record what God is speaking from the Bible, and how the student is responding in prayer and obedience.
- More detailed instruction on the Journal can be found in the Course Pack
- Please keep each weekly entry at approximately ½ to 1 page in length.
- In Class Quizzes-
- There will be occasional in class quizzes (unannounced) to aid as a review for the material covered in class.
- Old Testament Timeline-
- Students will complete a timeline covering the Old Testament Period.
- The timeline is to include these three items:
- a. Major Old Testament events in proper chronological order
- b. Major Old Testament characters in proper chronological order.
- c. All OT books placed according to historical contents (Genesis-Esther) or according to time of writing (Job-Malachi)
- A forth item is optional- major secular events and people that parallel Biblical events and characters.
- Artwork is optional, not required
- You timeline should follow this format:
- a. Use a horizontal, not vertical timeline. Be sure there is a continuous line marking the reference ruler for the dates of all events and characters included
- b. The placing of events should be as accurate as possible. As dates become uncertain (before 1000 BC) choose a reasonable date and mark with a question mark. For instance, there are two general time periods possible for the Exodus. You must choose one of the two, but either choice is acceptable. It is more important to mark the correct chronological relationship between people and events than to have an absolutely accurate date.
- c. Keep the time periods proportionate. For instance, the 400 years between Genesis and Exodus should be indicated with more space than the 40 years of wandering in the wilderness.
- d. The length of a completed timeline should not exceed 6 feet.
- e. No Scrolls. Please fold the timeline like an accordion.
- Grading will be based on the following:
- a. Turned in on time (Please make sure you include your name)
- b. Neat, easy to read and follows the proper format. Don’t make it too complex.
- c. Complete with all the required information included.
- d. All sources used should be indicated somewhere on the timeline (the back is acceptable). Failure to do so constitutes plagiarism.
- e. Creativity. Setup and artwork that are meaningful and aid understanding (and demonstrate understanding)
- f. The most important grading standard is that the timeline demonstrates the student has processed and understands the relation and overall connectedness of OT history.
- Your class notes and Textbook are the first resource for research. The resources from the bibliography are the next place to look if you need more information.
- You should also check out some other timelines such as:
- Eerdmans Handbook to the Bible p. 118-121. and
- Baker Bible Handbook, p. 58-70
- The research and construction of your timeline should take between 8-12 hours.
- If you are drastically over that time, you are including too much information.
- If you are drastically under that time, you are not including enough information.
- Due Monday, Nov. 24th at 8:00am
- Sectional Exams-
- Two 45 minute exams covering all of the course material up to that point.
- Monday, Oct. 20th 8am, Monday Nov. 17th 8am.
- Final Exam-
- A 100 minute exam covering all of the course material.
- Monday Dec. 8th, 8am
